I thought of a really good analogy and I wanted to share it with you.
The recent Health care bill passage and the subsequent broo ha ha caused a friend of mine to ask why so many people are against such a good idea.
I responded that my main problem was that I couldn't afford it and neither could our children but he didn't seem to understand. So I am going to try to explain it through this analogy.
first I have to point out that I am exactly the kind of person that president Obama Described every time he said these are the people we need to help... that is I am without health care I would like to have health care but I can't even miss a day of work because my finances are so tight that a day off work literally could mean I can't pay the rent, let alone have the extra cash to spend on an expensive health care policy.
But the plan instituted here does absolutely nothing for me.
When I first moved here I was on medicare because I was without a job and at least a year ago there were no doctors in my area who were accepting patients of my status. (that's right none, zip, zero, nada, niente...) Now He wants to add more people into a system that already has too many patients and not enough doctors, while lowering the amount that system will pay the doctors?
How does this help me?
Plus MY taxes are still going to increase to pay for it.
I See it as being like a restaurant. I go in to have a meal I am not rich, and I want to save some of my hard earned cash, so I will only have a grilled cheese sandwich. because it is the cheapest item.
But then when I get the bill I find I am also paying for the Lobster Thermidor and the $500 an ounce caviar that the diner at the next table chose to eat.
What's more that diner chose that meal in part because he KNEW he wouldn't be paying for it.
And even worse than that, this plan doesn't meet all the needs... you want vegetables with that? tough those aren't covered because no one likes them and they are too expensive... HUH????
So what am I supposed to do? My first and primary care giver will still be the E.R. just as it was/is before the interference of the government. I still will suffer poor health and limited choice but in the end it will cost me more.
And Our fearless leader did this to help me? with help like that I will soon and up dead. OH THANK you oh SO much Mr. President. (please note that last was said with all the sarcasm I could muster.)
Maybe I will start using this as a curse... "May you be helped by the liberals." Hmm then again I really wouldn't wish this poor excuse for "reform" on my worst enemies.
Am I in favor of reform of some kind? YES! I want reform that actually addresses COST of service not something that ADDS taxes so the cost is higher!
I want reform that creates an affordable alternative!
Not a threat that if I do not buy the Policies the Government chose then I will have to go to jail or be fined for it. (for crying out loud like I already said I cannot afford health care as it is, and now the insurance companies have hiked their rates as much as 37% and they are looking at ANOTHER hike of up to 15% JUST BECAUSE OF THIS LEGISLATION!!!)
maybe if Medicare paid at least the operating costs of the doctors then there would be more doctors who would accept it.
Maybe if there was a standardized rate for services then everyone would know where they were on things.
Maybe if the Insurance companies weren't allowed to wheedle special treatment out of hospitals and doctors so everyone else had to pay more.
Maybe if there was a limit or clause that a person could not sue doctors willy nilly. That they had to have a truly justified case, not just an "oh I feel bad that gramps died, even though he had a bad heart and scarfed down bacon and quadruple burgers like water, so now I want to get all I can out of the doctor/s to assuage my pain."
Maybe if the Malpractice insurers had to hold down costs for the doctors so the doctors wouldn't have to pay out millions of dollars thereby increasing their overhead...
But Obama did NONE of that. Oh no his idea is to tax everything... yeah that will make it more affordable, raise costs... that always makes it cheaper huh?.
His plan is to cut back on how much medicare will pay... yeah the doctors will be able to stay in business while declaring bankruptcy because they cannot get enough to pay the bills.
His plan is to throw all the people who don't buy insurance into jail... oh yeah that will fix it all, nevermind that the jail systems in this country are ALL overcrowded... yeah hmm I can't afford to buy this service that makes me a felon... good plan.
His plan is to tell people they can't get needed surgery because they are too old for it to be worthwhile, or they just plain don't have a good enough quality of life... That is exactly like saying... "you may as well just crawl off somewhere and die to ease your suffering."
Wait a minute maybe that is the plan! If we kill off all the old people, the sick people and the poor people then health care would have to get cheaper.
I mean, it will work because all you will have left is the strong, healthy and rich people.
Ah Utopia here it comes and who cares what happens to the peasant rabble.
A word though Mr. President, I know you abhor History and reality but this plan has been tried before in a way (that is the "let the peasants suffer" concept) And it has never worked out well before.

Improving Self Esteem
I recall hanging a magazine ad on my bedroom door when I was a boy. It was a PSA that said "you cannot raise yourself up by bringing another down."
The ad was aimed at preventing bullying and child abuse and at the time I felt it was an important point because it seemed that was what my father tended to do. Of course in hindsight I have to admit that had he really been abusive or violent I wouldn't have dared putting that up on my door for fear of the repercussions... but I digress.
Recent events by the American people as a whole though have me very concerned. You see I understand the desire that we all have to encourage self esteem. And while I will not argue that it would be better for kids to not become suicidal or depressed over certain issues, I think we take it too far.
I have seen and experienced the effects of depression and I was a child who could have had a little more positive encouragement. But I have found that what I really needed and indeed what most of us seem to need is to be able to accomplish things. I mean HELLO, I didn't need someone telling me "oh is that test too hard for you? well let's make it easier so you feel better about you." No what I NEEDED was to sit down and work at it until I WAS good enough to do well on the test and excel!
Well now I see both of the negatives from these two points coming togther in our society in a very dangerous way.
In short we are deliberately dragging ourselves down so that others can feel good. NOW WAIT A COTTON PICKIN MOMENT!
Like the PSA that hung on my door some 20 years ago I think we all need to be reminded that one person being dragged down, NO MATTER WHO IS DOING THE DRAGGING, does not raise up another person. In fact I think that attitude will only lead us to mediocrity and suffering.
Also I think that if we really want others to have something to feel good about, instead of dragging ourselves down it would be better to give them a helping hand UP in learning how to BE better.
Then they get better self esteem through their accomplishments and the world as a whole is improved.
All the goals that we face are answered.
Do you doubt it? How about a little test. Go out there and plant some seeds in the ground, do not water them, do not weed them, just dig a hole and shove them in... heck don't even cover them with dirt. Now be all sad and weepy that you do not have anything growing until someone hands you a flower or a piece of fruit. How does that make you feel?
Now try going out and plant a nice little garden. learn what kind of soil you have, find out what PH balance you need, water your seeds, fertilize them, make sure they have plenty of sun and keep the weeds out.
then when time for harvest or whatever comes around go out and pick yourself a nice bouquet of flowers or get some of those strawberries and make a nice dessert... NOW how do you feel?
You see the first one doesn't do anything for you. You have accomplished NOTHING and so while you have a nice pretty for the moment you don't have any long term satisfaction. the only "advantage" to the first approach is that you get to be A Lazy jerk.
The advantage to the second option though is that you have accomplished something. and while your flowers or dessert may be just as fleeting the memory is lasting and the sense of pride will be there for the rest of your life... And THAT is the best self esteem there is.
Once you have grown something from seed you know you can; and you know that if you ever want to you can do it again.
When you're lazy you never learn what it is you can or cannot do. and THAT leads to low self esteem.
We need to learn this and learn it now before it is too late.

Too Much Harry Potter?
Last night as I started thinking (having followed some of the news about the health care "summit") I realized what I think is the problem here.
See the Democrats who are pushing this Health care are obviously disconnected from reality, and I blame that on Harry Potter.
As I was watching a democrat senator talking about the health care plan as proposed he said, "Polls show that the American people are strongly in favor of this bill." with the implication that the Republicans were being silly to oppose it.
What polls?????????
He made that statement on a t.v. news network which is obviously smitten by the President and yet when the news people went to look at the polls they showed that the American people are strongly OPPOSED to this bill.
Worse the poll they looked at is one which is known to regularly try to conduct polls to favor the liberal agenda. and yet, there it was. the people polled disliked the health care plan by a margin in this Dem friendly poll of 1.5 to 1 against the proposed plan.
The news anchor started to comment (trying to support the senator's position)and had to literally CHOKE down the support when the poll numbers flashed on the screen. She started saying "yes you can..." [see the proof?] then she rapidly changed topic. (this was NOT a small media this was one of the "big" news services on cable.)
Then in the actual meeting the only thing that happened was the president repeated, like a mantra, the same thing he was saying all the time before.
Reminiscent of the time in The Harry Potter Movie when the young Hermione trying to "help" Ron said "it's wingardium leviOHsah not wingardium leviohSAH."
Now Obama is apparently trying the same thing "hmm maybe if I say the health care PLAN is a good thing that will reduce debt, instead of the health care plan is a good thing that will reduce DEBT."
Then Pelosi speaks. " [Not only] will this reduce the national debt, but it will create 4 million new jobs 40,000 of them immediately."
Wait WHAT?????
With all due respect... How do you figure?
Last time I looked when you hire more people it costs MORE MONEY; In order to lower debt you have to PAY LESS... you CANNOT have it both ways.
If it did work that way then ALL these businesses are really screwing up! if they want to make their budget/s then they better go out and start hiring all the people they can... after all that is apparently how to reduce costs... just ask Pelosi!
I guess she is working on the idea that she can wave a little stick, say the right words and bam everything is repaired... hmm yeah that works, after all Harry Potter's glasses receive such a treatment in two different books/movies so clearly that works.
Really, I feel bad for these poor deluded fools. they couldn't cope with reality and they have fallen into a false belief. I hope they will get the help they need. but until then I wonder who will bring us the help WE need.?
Please Lord save us from such as these.

Where did this come from???????
Oh my word!
Honestly I had stopped posting for quite a while because I thought no one was listening to me, but a recent event makes me think maybe I have to respond.
I was Listening to what Obama had to say during his acceptance speech of the Nobel peace prize.
Now in anticipation of his speech (the day before) I thought, if I was him I would turn it down with a statement about how the Men and Women of our armed forces deserved the prize so much more! Well boy howdy was I surprised when Obama almost met me halfway there!
In his speech, which I had heard someone say he allegedly wrote himself, he actually PRAISED the American military and stated that for the past 60 years they defended and preserved peace and democracy in this world.
I thought I can NOT have heard that right, but sure enough Obama praised the military! in fact a lot of what he had to say was... well... good! the man actually sounded for a little while like a president!
He made declarations that made me believe he was an American instead of a toady for some foreign group or cabal, I wondered where exactly he grew the... um... Huevos to make such a speech.
I wondered if maybe he found them in a desk drawer left over from T. Roosevelt, R. Reagan or what. Apparently even CBS thought it was out of character trying to claim he was channeling George Bush.
But upon reflection I thought of something else too. shortly before he went to receive his award, a poll came out (from a liberal pollster group of all places) that declared "his [was] the worst presidency, by poll, in the history of the United States".
Apparently NO president in History has ever had such a huge drop in approval rating from the public for a first term, first year presidency... in plain english... people voted him in office and thought oops! more so than ANYONE EVER before.
Even Carter didn't get such a bad response.
(And remember Carter was a one term wonder who, by the time he left, was universally hated by the military and single handedly drove the American voters to vote overwhelmingly republican for the next 16 years.)
No president has ever had such a drop in how people feel about him ever before... and I cannot help but wonder if the speech he gave wasn't an attempt to regain some seriously lost ground.
Also in the mix he recently "HAD" to increase the troop deployments to Afghanistan by 30,000... so maybe he was trying to "defend" that choice.
well one thing I did notice is the lack of applause that greeted his speech and I thought better of him that he faced that.
When someone is voted into office purely because of his Charisma, as Obama was, it is nice to see him do something that is unpopular and follow it through, even if it is only in the short term.
To be honest I feel for those who are in that office, Really I do! doesn't matter who they are. Being the leader of America is not easy. But that is something that ANY (all?) candidates need to be ready for.
I am afraid that with this president we may have someone who was not, and even IS not ready to be in office. But, as I heard someone declare last November, I finally see a glimmer of hope. Maybe we can make it through this yet.

What should we look for in our politicians.
Well this is a good question.
I wish people would have asked this before voting in the last election.
The things we need to look for are things like….
Values and morality, Honesty, Integrity, Character, Capability, Knowledge/Understanding of the issues, and he/she ought to have a good workable plan for solving the issues and addressing the problems.
And of course Experience is a plus.
Unfortunately the candidate/s we had and ultimately voted for lacked many of these points.
I will grant you neither candidate had a good plan for addressing the issues. Indeed neither seemed to have a grasp of the issues let alone a plan.
But we ended up with the candidate who also had no real character. We voted for the glib charismatic. This worries me. What’s worse it seems that many people realized on some level what he was about and chose to vote for him purely because he was a black man.
Now THAT is racism! To vote for someone JUST because of his skin color is wrong.
Based on my list of qualities I have a short list of people who I think would be reasonable candidates for leadership.
Colin Powell, Thomas Sowell, Bill Cosby, Sarah Palin, Chick Norris, Steve Cole, Joe Arpaio, Harrison Ford, Will Smith And Denzel Washington.
I know most of these guys are movie stars but they all exhibit a kind of strength of character that I feel we need in the White House… They seem to have moral values that I can support. And at least some of them are aware of the issues and are prepared to do something about it.
The presidency is not about popularity though. And we need to realize that.

The well analogy
I thought of another good analogy recently! I feel like a guy at the bottom of a well. I felt piled on by the economy, the recession, the war/s, in short all the issues.
I am betting that a lot of other people felt the same. Obama came along and like a beacon of hope promised change, and many bought it.
However I saw the bucket that he was hiding behind his back. (and so didn't vote for him)
See Obama is the guy who came to the top of the well looked down at us and said “I can get you out of there.) Everyone thought he meant with a rope or something.
But what he has been doing since is dumping more water on our heads. He is, even now, dragging a fire hose over so he can make it worse. (he literally plans on doubling the debt with his plans in the next 10 years alone).
He might be thinking that raising the water level will cause us to float to the top but unfortunately by the time we do we will all be drowned.
See so his plan will kill us before it can save us. I hope we will wise up and stop him before it’s too late.

The Star Wars link
I debated whether I was going to post this as a blog or not… my reasons for the debate were somewhat selfish.
I was concerned that a certain element in our society would be a little too… thick to figure out the meaning of this blog and would thus make fun of me/my blog. I was afraid in other words that posting this would be compromising what I was trying to say.
But then I realized that those people would deliberately misunderstand things anyway! So it doesn’t matter how straight or humorous I try to make it. They will still try to put me down by taking things out of context so here I go.
Recently the Liberals who are pro Obama have been complaining about the town hall meetings.
They have a problem with the signs that compare this administration with the early Nazi party.
I think they are right.
For one thing Hitler was a short, angry, white guy. Obama is a tall, Angry, Black guy.
For another Hitler was clearly interested from the start in killing everyone he didn’t like.
Obama hasn’t made it clear who he wants to kill, yet.
But there is a similarity in the sci fi world.
For my analogy today I turn to Star Wars.
I would compare President Obama to Emperor Palpatine.
Let us look at the similarities… Palpatine got control of the republic by a vote of no confidence over the old administration. So did Obama. (remember? “John McCain will just be another George Bush”)
Palpatine manipulated things to get his position. So did Obama.
Both incited fear issues in order to get in.
Palpatine took dangerous, major, Sweeping steps to consolidate his position once in place. So is Obama.
Both of them, in their campaigns, promised hope and change.
Both claimed to be on the side of the people.
Neither lived up to the expectations people had, apparently preferring to serve themselves.
So for me the question arises, Who qualifies as the Jedi in this scenario? Who is the rebellion? And does Obama have his own "order 66" already in place? These are important to know.
Of course there is also the point Mace Windu made… “There is always two, the master and the apprentice.”
If Obama is the “Sith Lord” then who is his apprentice?(or his he the apprentice? in which case we need to look for the master.)
Personally, I say we need to start watching out for a little boy with a cutsie (semi Girlish)nickname!
